(WNDU) - Amazon said it plans to invest $15 billion in northern Indiana to build new data center campuses.

The online shopping giant said the new data centers will be built to support artificial intelligence and cloud computing technologies.

The new investment comes in addition to the $11 billion data center that’s currently being built near New Carlisle. Multiple St. Joseph County officials have confirmed with WNDU and our reporting partners that this latest announcement is not for St. Joseph County.

The plans include a $1 billion deal with NIPSCO where Amazon will cover all of the costs to build out the 2.4 gigawatts of power the data centers will need.
