A professor at the University of Oklahoma has been detained by U.S. and Customs Enforcement at the Will Rogers International Airport in Oklahoma City, according to a fellow professor at the Norman university.
As first reported by the OU Daily , Vahid Abedini, an assistant professor of Iranian studies at OU, was reportedly detained by ICE on Saturday, Nov. 22, as he was boarding a flight to Washington, D.C., for the Middle East Studies Association, according to Joshua Landis, a professor of Middle East studies at OU.
Landis said on social media Monday that he believed Abedini was wrongfully detained because he said Abedini has an H-1B visa that allows him to legally work at the university in Norman.
OU Daily reported that Abedini is working with a lawyer, though it's uncertain how soon
