Jill Freud , the longtime actress whose final big-screen role was in Love Actually and who was the inspiration for Lucy in C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, has died, according to her daughter Emma Freud. She was 98.
Born June Flewett, at the age of 16 she was shipped off to a suburb of Oxford to avoid the Blitz in London. Once there, she was taken in by “Jack” Lewis and his adoptive mother.
“I had read the Screwtape Letters and, being a good little Catholic at that time, his famous book Christian Behaviour , but I didn’t know then that Jack Lewis was C.S. Lewis. I had no idea.,” she said in a 2005 interview . “Two weeks later I saw his books on the shelf, then I made the connection. I realized that this man I was staying with was my literary hero.”
