When I entered the IndyStar newsroom for a job interview in 2015, the first thing I noticed was the escalator.
Most newsrooms don’t have them. But after spending more than a century at 307 N. Pennsylvania St., IndyStar in 2014 moved to our current location inside the Circle Centre Mall.
Our newsroom carried some reminders from its former occupant, Nordstrom. Shoppers once ascended the escalator to look for clothes; for me, it’s how I found my desk.
A lot has changed since then. The bustling mall from a decade ago is now mostly empty as part of a yearslong redevelopment plan .
And just as the mall is going through a major change, so are we at IndyStar. We’re moving in the coming weeks.
Our needs are pretty simple. We don’t need nearly as much space in a modern newsroom.
