A Massachusetts man tried to hire another incarcerated individual at Franklin County Jail to kill a woman scheduled to testify against him.

Hector Nieves, 44, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to four charges, according to the Northwestern District Attorney David E. Sullivan’s office.

Nieves’s efforts to kill the woman came to law enforcement’s attention in July 2024, triggering a joint investigation by the Hampshire/Franklin and Hampden State Police Detective Units, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office Anti-Crime Task Force.

A Franklin County Grand Jury indicted Nieves in October 2024.
