A parliamentary spokesperson for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has responded to calls for a 'simplification' of the Pension Credit scheme.

Key organisations and charities like Carers UK, Independent Age, and Age UK have persistently called for the process to be simplified.

They argue that a more straightforward scheme would boost take-up among eligible pensioners , arguing that the complexity of the current application process is a significant barrier to many older people.

It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of eligible households are currently missing out on this vital support.

Another issue flagged by these groups is an overall lack of understanding and awareness about eligibility and the additional benefits Pension Credit unlocks.
