BANGOR, Maine (WABI) -With Thanksgiving just three days away, kitchens are about to get very busy.
Cooking is also the leading cause of home fires on Thanksgiving Day, accounting for a 388% increase over the daily average, according to the National Fire Protection Agency.
To inform people of the possible hazards, the Levant Fire Department is handing out cooking safety tips for this holiday season.
Levant Fire Chief Eric Strout believes taking steps for prevention is a big part of staying hazard-free.
“We teach people, turn the handles of the stove in so if you’re cooking, you don’t bump up against it. Pull your sleeves up when you’re cooking to avoid getting your sleeves on the hot stove,” he said.
But it’s always good to prepare, in case things don’t go to plan.
