The Legislature has so far refused to give its permission to other municipalities who want to try the system. That’s a loss for Massachusetts cities looking to save money and tone down election rancor.
Cities and towns need state approval to start using ranked-choice voting, and for years the Legislature has ignored the pleas of more than 25 municipalities that have pushed for the local change.
