KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Health experts are keeping an eye on a new strain of the flu called Subclade K that initially emerged overseas in Japan and the United Kingdom.

The variation has mutated seven times and is different than what was chosen for this year's flu vaccine strains. Now, it's made its way into the United States.

"Sometimes they're seeing more severe or more pronounced symptoms with that, but the symptoms are still the same as our typical flu variants, fever, body aches, respiratory complaints, some individuals get GI upset like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea," Ashley Ellis, the director of nursing for the Knox County Health Department, said.
