The 21st-ranked Mountaineer women’s basketball team improved to 6-0 on the season with an 83-63 victory over McNeese State on Monday afternoon in the first round of the Goombay Division of the Pink Flamingo Championship in Nassau, Bahamas.

It was not a perfect performance by coach Mark Kellogg’s club, though.

For the first time since last December, WVU actually had more turnovers than its opponent – 18-16 – though West Virginia still had a 22-14 advantage in points off turnovers.

Usually, it’s defense that fuels the Mountaineers, but this time it was more about their offense. They equaled their best shooting performance of the season by hitting 27 of their 48 field-goal attempts (56.3%), while also canning six-of-14 3-pointers (42.9%) and 23-of-30 free throws (76.7%).
