LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood has withdrawn a proposal to move up the start and dismissal times for every school by 20 minutes. The reversal came Monday after district leaders announced the plan on Saturday.
Yearwood’s proposal came after he said principals and staff at schools starting at 9:20 a.m. told him the late start was contributing to operational difficulties and strain on staffing. In just days, however, the proposal was met with criticism and confusion from families.
Kevin Canterbury, who was waiting to pick up his three children from Bloom Elementary, said he was concerned about the earlier start time.
