Nicholas Ralph, star of All Creatures Great and Small , has revealed the delightful chaos behind filming the Channel 5 programme's forthcoming Christmas special.

The 35-year-old Scottish performer, who portrays James Herriot in the beloved family series, spoke candidly about the new episode during a chat with Radio Times .

Despite the festive instalment being shot during July's sweltering heat, Ralph described feeling completely immersed thanks to Skeldale House's magnificent seasonal decorations.

The actor also explored the episode's contrasting emotions, set in 1945, where characters desperately want their first post-war Christmas to be flawless.
