The Village of East Palestine announced the retirement of Police Chief Jim Brown on Monday, effective Dec. 6, after 25 years of service.
Stepping into the role will be Patrolman Chris Weingart, who has been with the East Palestine Police Department for over 20 years.
Brown, who spent the last eight years in his current role as chief, believes his successor is more than capable of the position.
"Chris excels in administration and has a deep understanding of the Officers and the Community," Brown said. "He has my full confidence, and I know he will lead with the same dedication that has defined our team."
Village officials expressed enthusiasm for the transition, noting that Weingart's promotion ensures continuity and stability.
