This just in: There’s a tax evasion tip line in Canada.

Apparently, Canada Revenue Agency has collected $490 million in unpaid taxes since 2018 by following up on tips from informants who call the tip line, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

According to in-house research, however, most Canadians don’t want to become informants because they consider other peoples’ tax planning “none of their business.”

“Since 2018, the Agency has assessed approximately $490 million in additional federal taxes and penalties through information from the Offshore Tax Informant Program,” CRA wrote in an Inquiry Of Ministry tabled in the Commons.

Confidential tips were “a key part of the Agency’s efforts to fight international tax evasion and tax avoidance,” it said.

An average of 109 tips were received
