The Columbus Blue Jackets might lose more than just a game on Monday night.

With the Blue Jackets trailing the Washington Capitals 5-1 midway through the third period, the team announced that defenceman Zach Werenski and forward Mathieu Olivier had been ruled out for the remainder of the contest due to upper-body injuries.

It’s unclear when or how their injuries occurred.

Both are notable losses for the Blue Jackets, considering Werenski and Olivier have both yet to miss a game this season and rank top 10 on the roster for points.

Werenski entered Monday with 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists), second most on Columbus, and was just named the NHL’s second star of the week. Olivier’s three goals and six assists for nine points rank eighth.
