MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -Cyber Monday is one week away, but recent changes to U.S. trade rules mean shoppers could be paying more this year for their orders, without warning.
Jennifer Scully, a small business owner who orders items from overseas sellers, received a costly surprise with her package a month ago.
“UPS came knocking on the door and I happened to be home, and I answered the door and they said ‘I have a package for you, here is a bill, you can’t have your package until you pay this bill, please write a check to the US treasury,” Scully said.
Caught off guard, Scully faced a bill despite already paying for her order and shipping. She said she needed the package for her business, so she wrote the check.
“I’m just a regular businessperson trying to pay the mortgage, right?” Scully
