LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Responding to a plane crash is a situation first responders train for, but hope to never put into practice.

On October 21, Louisville's airport simulated an aircraft emergency for a crucial safety drill. The Louisville Regional Airport Authority's Public Safety Department and other agencies used a portion of Muhammad Ali International Airport for the exercise.

"And it just so happened to be that two weeks later, we met for the real thing," said Josh Grimes, the Chief and Director of Public Safety.

Chief Grimes says his department's fire station is located strategically so that they can respond to anywhere on the airfield within three minutes.

When Air Traffic Control spotted the engine fire on Flight 2976, they dispatched the airport's department.
