WOODBURN, Ind. (WPTA) - The Woodburn Missionary Church is collecting donations to help people affected by Hurricane Melissa, the first Category 5 storm to hit Jamaica.
After making landfall in late October, the storm caused more than $45 billion in damage, leaving thousands of people without shelter, food, and water.
Tina Gerke, president of Rebel Ministries , recently got back from Jamaica.
“We were able to get into the island a couple days after the hurricane, which was a praise, and you know, the devastation is just, you just can’t understand it,” Gerke said.
Through her work, she has taken many students on mission trips to Jamaica. On Monday, she took the stage during Woodburn’s night of prayer for the island.
