CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Thanksgiving week is always a busy time for travel, and West Virginia is expecting 740,000 drivers on the Turnpike.
To avoid heavy traffic, officials say it’s best to steer clear of driving from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
WVDOT Spokesperson Brent Walker said, “Historically, what we see is most traffic is in those afternoon hours. Everybody wants to get on the road seems like at the same time, and so we’re always suggesting that you consider getting an early start because it’s gonna take you some time.”
Walker said the Department of Transportation will be looking at projects throughout the holiday season to remove barrels and give drivers more room in work zones where they can.
