CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Turnpike expects 740,000 vehicle transactions over the Thanksgiving holiday season, which runs from Tuesday, Nov. 25, through Sunday, Nov. 30.

Thanksgiving week is historically one of the busiest travel times on the Turnpike. Last year, the Turnpike recorded 754,405 total transactions, exceeding its estimate of 715,000.

Turnpike officials project 160,000 transactions on both the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after the holiday, which are typically the two days with the most traffic. To avoid congestion, officials advise travelers to avoid peak travel times between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m..
