CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — For 46 years, the Harrison County Toy Run has signaled the start of the holiday season in Harrison County, as bikers gather to deliver toys to underprivileged children.
The event, scheduled for Sunday, continues a tradition that began in 1979 when the Hard Times Benefit for Kids motorcycle club started collecting toys for children around Christmas time.
"They started out very small, collecting toys for underprivileged children at Christmas time, and then it just kept getting bigger and bigger," Cara Hall, event organizer said.
This has grown into a major community event that serves more than 100 children annually and has attracted as many as 200 motorcycles in previous years, depending on weather conditions.
