RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Before you can gobble up the “Turkey Day” fixins, AAA says nearly 2 million Virginians will be behind the wheel for Thanksgiving, about a 1% increase from last year’s projection.

“This is very much a driving holiday,” said Morgan Dean, AAA manager of public and government affairs. “You know the old adage about ‘over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house?’ We see that a lot, so we’re not surprised that many people are driving.”

AAA warned the Richmond metro can already have its fair share of backups. But the area could be particularly “stuffed” with even more traffic. Dean urged motorists to remain patient and courteous.
