DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Buried deep in the equipment racks of KDAL radio is a lot of history, some glad and some sad.

Thanksgiving week 1936, an ad in the Duluth Herald wants us to celebrate with a turkey and a case of Fitger’s while listening to the new KDAL Radio.

The station signed on Sunday, November 22nd with Gil Fawcett and his talking parrots.

“Whom he taught to say let’s have a drink and I’ll have another.” said KDAL radio legend Rik Jordan.

Dalton A. LeMasurier put the DAL in KDAL.

He had founded a station in Grand Forks before Duluth, all in his 20’s.

“Dalton was an interesting gentleman, he was a visionary and in today’s terminology he would become an entrepreneur.” said local radio historian Dave Schreyer.
