MEDINA, Ohio – Council members have decided they will work with Feeding Medina County to distribute up to $50,000 worth of food to city residents in need this season.
During a Nov. 24 finance committee meeting, council members unanimously approved a motion to donate $50,000 to Feeding Medina County with a stipulation that the funds will be used to purchase and distribute food to city residents only.
“These are taxpayer dollars so the funds should be going back to the people of the city,” Council President John Coyne said.
Coyne first suggested the donation earlier this month.
“We have learned that roughly 11.4 percent of our population is on SNAP benefits or other programs that are SNAP eligible,” he said. “We as council have done a lot of things for businesses, and I think it makes se
