GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - If you’re already shopping for the perfect toy for a child, remember that the greatest gift of all is safety.
As the holiday season begins, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is reminding parents to make safety a top priority when shopping for toys.
The DATCP says it’s important to do your research when you buy a new toy online or in-store.
You should review packaging information and search for two key labels.
Essential safety labels to check
Parents should first look for age-grading labels that show if a toy is age appropriate for the child you’re buying it for. These labels consider factors like a child’s motor skills, play behaviors and potential hazards like small parts that could cause choking.
