A top ally for Vladimir Putin has alleged the West is in more economic danger than Russia due to the sanctions it has levelled against Moscow.

Entrepreneur Igor Sechin claimed “not all Western politicians realise the risks they face” by restricting their own access to Russia’s markets.

His remarks come after Donald Trump unveiled a 28-point peace plan meant to settle the Ukraine war last week.

But the framework was instantly criticised by Western allies for expecting major capitulation from Ukraine, including demands for it to give up even more land.

Prime minister Keir Starmer said on Tuesday elements of the plan were “not acceptable”.
