Investigators will soon be given significant new powers to tackle DWP benefit fraud . Fresh legislation is being added to the books that will grant officials sweeping new measures to stop mistaken and fraudulent payments and recover owed funds. ‌

Officials will get new powers to directly withdraw money from a person's bank account when they owe funds and are refusing to settle their debt. In cases where the DWP attempts to recover money but are unsuccessful in retrieving the full amount, the debtor could face disqualification from driving. ‌
