Hoover Mayor Nick Derzis has named his replacement as the city’s police chief.
The Hoover City Council on Monday unanimously approved Clay Morris to take the helm of the department.
“This has been a very, very tough decision, but it is the right decision,” Derzis told the council during their Monday night meeting.
“I’ve known Chief Morris for over 12 years,” the mayor said.
“I know we’re handing the reins over to someone who is smart, innovative, and will continue to do what we all want to see in the City of Hoover, and that’s to keep this community of 100,000 one of the safest communities in the country.”
Morris is currently the police chief in Pell City, a position he has held since March 2022.
His first official day with the Hoover Police Department will be Monday, Dec. 1.
