A man missing after being swept into the ocean by a wave on the Big Sur coastline has been identified as a 35-year-old U.S. Army specialist.
On Monday, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office identified the missing man as U.S. Army Spc. Amanpreet Thind of New Jersey.
The tragedy occurred on Soberanes Point in the Garrapata State Park in Monterey County, the sheriff's office said.
Garrapata State Park is the same park where earlier this month, a father tried to rescue his 7-year-old daughter who was dragged into the ocean by a 15-to-20-foot wave. The Canadian father, Yuji Hu, and his daughter, Anzi Hu, both died.
Thind was swept off the rocks, along with two women Saturday afternoon. The women were able to reach the shore, but Thind hasn't been found.
