Worker found dead at B.C. coal mine

A 39-year-old contractor has died following a mining incident at Elk Valley Resources' operations near Sparwood in southeastern British Columbia, according to a statement released by the Elk Valley Regional RCMP.

The worker, a resident of Hosmer, British Columbia, was reported missing on site at approximately 7:00 a.m. on November 20, 2025, at the Elk View Operations facility. According to the Elk Valley Regional RCMP, "the Elk Valley Resource (EVR) Mine Rescue teams were leading a search of the mine property involved in the incident," with RCMP providing assistance to the initial investigation.

By the morning of November 21, 2025, authorities had confirmed the fatal outcome. "Elk Valley RCMP can confirm that a contractor working on site has died and his remains
