AAA projects that more than 6.3 million people in the Mountain Region will travel this Thanksgiving, marking a record-breaking year, with travel by car being the most popular option.

The company predicts at least 73 million people will be on the roads nationwide this Thanksgiving, a 2% increase from last year.

Experts advise travelers planning road trips during busy holidays to start by getting their cars checked by a trusted mechanic. In New Mexico, the most common roadside emergencies during this time of year are flat tires, dead batteries and engine problems.

A spokesperson for AAA said they are partnering with Mothers Against Drunk Driving this holiday season, noting that from 2019 to 2023, there were over 800 deaths on Thanksgiving due to drunk driving.
