A medicines expert has warned that a number of prescription drugs have been linked to hair thinning and hair loss, but just 41% of patients taking medication say they are definitely informed about potential side effects and a third report not being told at all. Jason Murphy at Chemist4U has explained the even medications most commonly linked to hair loss.
Jason said: “Most medications that have a side effect of hair loss do so because they interrupt the natural growth cycle of your hair. Hair grows in phases – active growth, rest, and shedding – and some medicines can push more hairs than usual into the shedding phase at once. This type of loss, called ‘telogen effluvium’, usually appears a few months after starting treatment.
