Millions of people across the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes will experience a white Thanksgiving this year.

A winter storm tracking from the Dakotas and Minnesota on Tuesday toward Wisconsin and Michigan on Wednesday will also affect parts of Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York on Thanksgiving Day, leaving behind a fresh blanket of snow - like ice cream on apple pie.

As of Tuesday morning, some of the season’s first winter storm warnings covered portions of South Dakota, Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where moderate-to-heavy snow will develop into Wednesday. Winter storm watches and advisories also stretch from Montana to areas near Lakes Erie and Ontario in New York.
