NEW YORK — Americans are feeling less certain about the economy. In November, they reported feeling less confident about their jobs, incomes and financial situations currently and in the future, according to the new Consumer Confidence Index released Tuesday.
“Consumer confidence tumbled in November to its lowest level since April after moving sideways for several months,” Conference Board Chief Economist Dana M. Peterson said in a statement.
The survey’s present situation index fell 4.3 points to 126.9 in November The expectations index, based on consumers’ short-term outlook on jobs, income and business, fell 8.6 points to 63.2.
It was the tenth consecutive month the expectations index was less than 80 — a threshold that often signals a future recession, the Conference Board noted.
