The Department of Transportation (DOT) launched a new campaign to promote civility to air travel, urging Americans to dress “with respect” while rethinking their behavior towards others.

The new plan, called “ The Golden Age of Travel Starts With You ,” is meant to “jumpstart a nationwide conversation around how we can all restore courtesy and class to air travel,” a DOT statement from Nov. 19 reads. “This won’t just make the travel experience better for flying public — it will ensure the safety of passengers, gate workers, flight attendants, and pilots."

The agency said that this new campaign is partially in response to data, showing that travel has become “more unruly.”

Since 2021, there have been 13,800 unruly passenger incidents reported, the DOT said.
