With deep apologies to Mr. Beast, Defunctland is easily one of the most fascinating channels on YouTube. Who doesn't like multi-hour deep dives into the many mistakes of the weird, expensive theme park industry? The only caveat is that there are often months or even years between videos, but when they arrive, they arrive.
Take, for instance, the channel's newly-arrived four-hour behemoth. Defunctland's last video, a two-hour dive into the history of Disney's animatronics, now feels more like a prelude than anything else. With all that background out of the way, "Disney's Living Characters" is free to examine the implementation of those animatronics in pursuit of the final goal of filling Disney parks with walking, talking, free-roaming characters.
It hasn't quite worked out yet. 00:00/0
