The Mets made their first blockbuster trade of the offseason on Sunday when they sent outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers in exchange for All-Star infielder Marcus Semien.

Speaking on Baseball Night in New York this week, Mets announcer Ron Darling shared his reaction to the splashy trade, which he said “shocked” him.

“What this means to everyone who wears a Mets uniform — is that one of our most popular players, a guy that delivers each and every season, if he’s not safe, then no one’s safe.”

Nimmo came up in the Mets’ organization and made his MLB debut in 2016. Over 10 seasons, he hit .262/.364/.438 with 135 home runs and 463 RBI.
