Authorities have identified the man and woman who were killed in a Connecticut murder-suicide early Tuesday morning, Nov. 25, in New Haven. Another one was critically injured in the shooting.

Kerwin Romero, 41, and Jennifer Adams, 35, were found dead inside a home on Congress Ave. around 1:45 a.m., New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson said at a press conference. Two children who were at the house at the time of the shooting were not harmed.

A 38-year-old mother of two who was also shot in the attack is in critical condition at an area hospital. New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker told reporters that authorities are "cautiously optimistic" she will survive.

Jacobson said the survivor was dating Romero and is a victim of domestic violence. The department will not release her name to protect her identity.

It is unclear how Adams is connected to Romero.

Police had previously said that a man had shot two women before turning the gun on himself. Investigators are still processing evidence they collected at the scene, but initial findings back up that conclusion, Jacobson said.

Romero had an "extensive" criminal history and was last arrested in July for domestic abuse in West Haven involving a separate woman, Jacobson said. He was out on a $75,000 bond in that case.

Jacobson asked the public to report any signs of domestic violence when visiting family over the Thanksgiving holiday.

"It's that time of the year when families are together, but there's also a lot of domestic violence at this time of the year. And it looks like this is a domestic violence tragedy," said New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson during a press conference Tuesday afternoon. "So please, if there's anybody showing signs or issues, these things need to be reported so the police can get involved and services get involved before we have a terrible incident like we did last night."

New Haven police ask anyone who has information that could assist in their investigation to contact them at 203-946-6316.
