The SNP Justice Secretary has denied misrepresenting an expert on her views on a Scottish grooming gang inquiry. Angela Constance said she gave an “accurate” account of Professor Alexis Jay’s views despite the Government issuing a clarification.
Constance and the SNP Government have so far refused to back a national inquiry into grooming gangs along the lines seen in England and Wales. During a debate on a victims’ bill in September, the Tories tabled an amendment backing more research into grooming gangs.
The Government opposed the move and Constance backed up her argument by claiming Jay did not want more probes into child sexual abuse. Jay is a respected professional in the field and she wrote the independent inquiry report into child sexual exploita
