A 73-year-old New Jersey man vacationing in Florida for Thanksgiving drowned on Saturday, authorities said.
Nikolay Yurchenko was in the ocean behind a condominium at 3100 North Ocean Boulevard in Riviera Beach just before 12:30 p.m. when he started to struggle in the water, local police said.
Beachgoers helped pull Yurchenko from the ocean and began providing CPR before emergency workers arrived, according to Riviera Beach police.
Yurchenko was brought by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m.
His death is not considered suspicious.
Yurchenko and his 18-year-old granddaughter arrived in Florida on Thursday, police said. He left their condo between 10:30 and 11 a.m. to go to the beach.
