MANILA - Canada suffered its second loss in as many games at the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup, falling 6-3 to Thailand on Tuesday.
The defeat leaves Canada without a point at the bottom of Group B, unable to advance to the quarterfinals. Spain defeated Colombia 5-1 later Tuesday to lead the pool with six points, ahead of Thailand and Colombia each on three points.
Canada, which lost its opener 2-0 to Colombia on Saturday, wraps up group play Friday against Spain. The top two in the group move on to the knockout round.
Spain is ranked second in the FIFA women’s futsal rankings while Thailand is No. 4 and Colombia No. 8. Canada, largely due to its lack of international matches, is currently No. 74.
