Simon Cowell has opened up on his final conversation with Liam Payne in a new interview. The music mogul helped discover the One Direction star on X Factor before the band turned into one of the most popular in the world.

Liam tragically died in October last year aged 31 when he fell from the balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires . In an interview with Rolling Stone , Simon said he last spoke to Liam a year before the tragic incident as he explained the heartbreaking words he said to him in his final conversation.

He said: "When I heard the news, it really hit me. I saw him a year before this happened. He came over to my house. We talked about his son and being a dad .

"I remember saying, 'Music is not everything. Don’t let it run your life anymore.
