It was exactly one year ago Tuesday that the Colorado men’s basketball team tipped off at the Maui Invitational, which for decades has been the marquee nonconference tournament of the college basketball season.

It was a memorable trip for the Buffaloes, even if they returned home with losses in two of three games. Beyond the simple perk of a trip to Maui, CU managed to knock off two-time defending national champion UConn, with the victory against the Huskies tying the highest-ranked win in program history. The Buffs also received an early taste of Big 12-caliber competition in lopsided losses against Michigan State and Iowa State, the latter of which was played as a nonconference matchup.
