CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One day after a jury found Steven Staples and Terry Connor guilty in the 2019 robbery and killing of Scott Brooks , members of the NoDa community say the verdicts bring a long-awaited sense of justice.

Brooks' Sandwich House, a staple of the neighborhood, remained closed this week following the trial and the Thanksgiving holiday. But even with its doors shut, residents and customers still visited the restaurant, reflecting on the life and legacy of the man who made it a neighborhood institution.
