MCKENNEY, Va. (WWBT) - For Carolyn Owens-Trotter supporting others in need isn’t out of the ordinary.
In fact, her mission to feed the hungry first came to her in the middle of the night.
“I dreamed it. And I went back to sleep and I dreamed the same thing again. And I said Lord, what are you trying to tell me to do?”, Owens-Trotter asked.
That’s when Free Meal Fridays started right out of the barbershop she owns.
Outside of regular business, it’s a place of reassurance for many families in the small town.
Every Friday, they gave away food that she and her husband bought out of pocket. But when things started to get expensive they scaled back a bit.
“We put our money in. But the community has began to step up and want to help us,” she said.
Now her giveaways are held once a month.
