AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - This week marks the beginning of the ninth annual The Panhandle Gives fundraising campaign.

Over 260 nonprofits across 26 counties in the Texas Panhandle are accepting donations this year.

Unlike grants, funds received from The Panhandle Gives are unrestricted.

The Amarillo Area Foundation says this format gives nonprofits flexibility to fund its specific needs.

“They can really use that money for what they need at this moment. Sometimes that is staffing, sometimes that’s paying the electricity bill, sometimes it’s growing a program, but they’re able to see the need and meet the need immediately. We facilitate this, but our nonprofits are the ones who are doing the great marketing campaigns. They are reaching out to their donors, they’re finding creative ways
