Former University of Texas two-sport star and Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Bart Shirley has died. He was 85 years old.

Shirley died last Wednesday, his family announced in his obituary.

The Corpus Christi, Texas native played football and baseball for the University of Texas, before signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers and beginning his professional baseball career.

He made his Major League debut for the Dodgers in September of 1964 and went on to play in 75 career games across four MLB seasons.

In addition to the Dodgers, Bart Shirley also briefly played for the New York Mets.

He totaled 162 at bats in his Major League Baseball career, hitting .204 with four doubles, one triple and 11 RBIs. Shirley spent time at shortstop, second base and third base.
