COLUMBIA — Meals on Wheels of Columbia is providing frozen meals to SNAP-eligible residents in Boone County to help people facing food insecurity during the holiday season.

The nonprofit helps provide meals to people in need, and it mobilized when the Missouri Department of Senior Services announced that November benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program would not be issued due to the federal government shutdown.

The shutdown has since ended and SNAP funding has been restored , but Meals on Wheels of Columbia is still providing meals.

The organization is providing seven frozen meals per household member each week. For example, a family of three may receive 21 frozen meals: one meal per person per day for a week.
