SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Two bears at Springfield’s Dickerson Park Zoo celebrated Thanksgiving with a special feast.
OH-nah and Lil’ Bear enjoyed a bear-friendly buffet of Thanksgiving-themed treats, pumpkins, and other seasonal goodies on Tuesday. The bears now have full bellies as they prepare for their long winter rest.
OH-nah and Lil’ Bear do not enter full hibernation but will soon begin torpor, a state of decreased physiological activity. During torpor, their heart rates, respiration, and body temperature drop, allowing them to conserve energy until they become active again in spring.
