HILLSBORO, Texas — One man is dead after reportedly getting into a gunfight with a North Texas deputy, officials say.
According to the Hill County Sheriff's Office, the deputy conducted a welfare check on a man in the early morning hours of Monday in the 400 block of Hill County Road 4243 in Hillsboro.
When attempting to contact the man at the residence's front door, the man reportedly confronted the deputy with a handgun, police say. He then reportedly drew and pointed the gun at the deputy, who was in uniform, and gunfire was exchanged between the two.
Further HCSO personnel responded, and additional gunfire took place, police say. The man involved was struck by gunfire and died.
One deputy received treatment on scene for minor injuries suffered during the incident. No other officers
